1,4-Butenediol

1,4-Butenediol is a colorless liquid at room temperature and pressure, readily soluble in water and most organic solvents. It is a polar molecule, with its two hydroxyl functional groups capable of forming hydrogen bonds with water molecules. 1,4-Butenediol can undergo many organic reactions, such as esterification, etherification, alkylation, and oxidation. Furthermore, it can participate as a monomer in polymerization reactions to prepare polyesters and other polymeric materials.
